HA Website Overview

The HA Website is part of the Healthcare Almanac product and part of the total solution for using CMS Medicare Cost Reports. The HA Website has CMS Medicare Cost Report data for Hospitals, SNFs, HHA, ESRDs and Hospice. The goal of the HA Website is to provide summary information about all CMS approved Medicare providers. The HA Website offers Business Intelligence and Healthcare Analytics for healthcare consultants, hospital associations, internal auditors, cost report preparers, strategic planning, financial analyst and marketing organizations. Business Intelligence is the knowledge gained from the wealth of provider information available on the HA Website. Healthcare Analytics information includes KPIs, percents, rankings and charts where appropriate. The HA Website relies on the HA Database stored as Microsoft SQL Data at a Microsoft Azure DataCenter. The CMS Cost Report information is available through a Provider Profile with drill down detail for Analytics, KPIs, Cost Information, Charges information and Cost Report Filing History. The HA Website also has Geography Profiles for National, States, Counties and CBSAs with summary information for Population, KPIs, Cost and Charges Information. The CMS Cost Report information is available for 12 years. The CMS Cost Report information is available in an easy to read format that can be printed. Many HA Website screens have Charts that show historical trends in financial information. In some HA Website screens, information can be exported to Excel worksheets. The cost report data is submitted by healthcare providers directly to CMS - Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services. All of the CMS Cost Report data is obtained directly from CMS - Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services after processing and settlement. All the data is publicly available and HIPPA regulations do NOT apply.

HA Main Screen

The Main Screen provides access to all the features of the HA Website. The Main Screen has current event information about the processing of the CMS Medicare Cost Reports. Processing counts of cost reports are shown for each quarter of processing with record counts for five years. The processing schedules of the CMS Cost Reports show the new Cost Report information. Also, upgrades to the HA Website are described so you can take advantage of these features. At the top of the Main Screen is a menu bar with access to the Products screen, Reports screen, Installation screen and an About Us screen. At the bottom of the Main Page is the footer section with links to special screens of additional information.

  • Products Screen has information and documentation about the complete Healthcare Almanac product. The HA Product consists of the HA Website, HA Desktop and HA Database. An Overview is provided for each part of the HA Product. This page is the HA Website Overview. Each of the overviews have access to sample screens and reports.
  • Reports Screen has sample reports for the Largest 250 Healthcare Providers and healthcare providers in 7 largest states. The seven states are California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio. There are links to American Hospital Association (AHA.org) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA.org). There are links to the State Hospital Associations for each state and links to the State HFMA chapters for each state. The HA Reports consist of the one page Profile reports, three KPI Compare Reports of Revenue KPIs, Discharge KPIs and Salaries KPIs and seven reports of a single KPIs for Revenue, Charges, Profit, Discharges, Employees and Beds. The HA Report cover a period of 12 years.
  • Installation Screen has the instructions and a link to the HA Desktop software for installing the software on your local computer. The HA Desktop is a simple one step installation using the Microsoft Smart Client ClickOnce installation process. The HA Desktop is easy to install. If you install the software, you will have access to a Demonstration Database of Florida Providers. If you have a Subscription Agreement, you can enter your User ID and Password in the System Setup and have access to the full HA Database of all healthcare providers.   • About Us is the final menu item and has information about Healthcare Almanac.

Profile Views

On the Main Screen, you can search for a Provider by Provider Type (Hospital, SNF, HHA, ESRD and Hospice). Enter a search word like "lake" and all the Providers containing that phrase will appear in a selection list. Locate the Provider you want to view and select the "Profile" link for the Profile Screen.

Profile Screen - This view has all the information for a healthcare provider. There are sections of information on the view that provide summary information. You can print this view with the browser print function to save the information. A similar paper report is available in the HA Desktop. Profile Graphs - You can select the Graph link to see 8 Graphs of Healthcare Analytical information. The Graphs have 8 years of historical information. You can print the graphs with the browser print function to display the information.

If you have a Subscription Agreement, you can access more information about a Provider. At each section break in the Profile Information, there are buttons to select more information. The following button are available.

  • KPI Calculations - This button shows a list of KPI Calculations for the Provider. A similar paper report is available in the HA Desktop. You can display a Graph of KPI Calculations for the last 8 years.
  • KPI Values - This button shows a list of Cost Report Values used for KPI Calculations for the Provider. Sometimes, the KPI Value is actually the KPI - Key Performance Indicator. A similar paper report is available in the HA Desktop. You can display a graph of KPI Values for the last 8 years.
  • Balance Sheet - This button shows the CMS Cost Report Worksheet G. This worksheet has a complete Balance Sheet for the provider facility. Each line of the Balance Sheet has a Graph showing the last 8 years of financial history. Each line has a Percent of Total Assets or Total Liabilities to show the year by year change in a financial value. Each line has a ranking to show how the Balance Sheet amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Income Statement - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Worksheet G3. This worksheet has a limited Income Statement for the provider facility. Each line of the Income Statement has a Graph showing financial history for the last 8 years. Each line has a Percent of Total Revenue to show the year by year relation to Total Revenue. Each line has a ranking to show how the Income Statement amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Charges Statement - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Worksheet G2. This worksheet has he Charges for Revenue Departments for the provider facility. Each line of the Charges Statement has a Graph showing the last 8 years of financial history. Each line has a Percent of Total Charges to show the year by year relation to Total Charges. Each line has a ranking to show how the Charges Statement amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Worksheet C - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Worksheet C. This worksheet has the Total Charges and Total Cost for Revenue Departments for the healthcare facility. Each line of Worksheet C has a Graph showing the financial history for the last 8 years. Each line has a Percent of Total Charges to show the year by year relation to Total Charges. Each line has a ranking to show how the Charges Statement amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Worksheet B - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Worksheet B. This worksheet has the fully Allocated Cost of all Non Revenue Departments allocated to the Revenue Departments. The Allocated Cost for Worksheet B is transfered to Worksheet C with Charges to show Cost to Charge Ratios. Each line of Worksheet B has a Graph showing the last 8 years of financial history. Each line has a Percent of Total Expenses/Cost to show the year by year relation to Total Expenses/Cost. Each line has a ranking to show how the Total Allocated Expenses/Cost amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Worksheet A - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Worksheet A. This worksheet is the Trial Balance of Cost for the Healthcare Facility. Adjustments to Total Cost are entered on this worksheet. The Adjusted Cost of Worksheet A is transfered to Worksheet B and Worksheet G3. Each line of Worksheet A has a Graph showing the last 8 years of financial history. Each line has a Percent of Total Adjusted Expense/Cost to show the year by year relation to Total Adjusted Cost. Each line has a ranking to show how the Cost amount is ranked in comparison to other healthcare providers.
  • Cost Report History - This button shows a CMS Cost Report Filing History and Status of each Cost Report. The Status can be Submitted, Settled, Reopened, Amended and Audited. The Cost Report History shows the processing dates/events for the Cost Report. The Cost Report History is obtained from the Cost Report Header records received directly from CMS. This screen also shows the Period End date and the number of days covered by each CMS Cost Report.

Geography Profile Screens

On the Main Screen, you will see a button for National Controls and States. These two buttons provide access to the Geography screens. There are four Geography Screens; National, States, Counties and CBSAs. Each of the Geographies have Profile screens and graphs. The Geography Profiles have Population, Cost Report Analytics, KPIs based on Population and Financial Information by Geography. These Geographies are a great way to see Market Areas. You can access the Provider Profile to see individual providers profiles. In addition, you can see graphs in all the Geographies. The Graphs are a series of 8 Graphs of key financial information for a geography.

  • National Totals - This button or link provides a list of the National Totals by each calendar year. You can select a Profile or Graph link of any year information. The National Profile has Population, Cost Report Analytics, National KPIs based on Population and Financial Information by Year. You can also select Graphs to see a series of Graphs for key analytical values with an 8 year history. The National screen provides access to State screens and CBSA screens. The Graphs are a series of 8 graphs of key analytical information.
  • States - This button or link provides a selection list of the States. You can select a Profile or Graph of any state information. The State Profile has Population, Cost Report Analytics, State KPIs based on Population and Financial Information. You can also select Graphs to see a series of Graphs for State analytical values with an 8 year history. The State screen also has access to Counties and CBSAs. The Counties are the Counties in the State. The CBSAs span state and county boundaries and therefore are presented as one list of CBSAs. The Graphs are a series of 8 graphs of key analytical information.
  • Counties - This button or link provides a selection list of the Counties in a State. You can select a Profile or Graph of any county information. The County Profile has Population, Cost Report Analytics, County KPIs based on Population and Financial Information. You can also select Graphs to see a series of Graphs for County analytical values with an 8 year history. The County screen also has access to Providers in the County. The Graphs are a series of 8 graphs of key analytical information.
  • CBSAs - This button or link provides a selection list of the CBSAs - Core Based Statistical Areas. The CBSAs are based on Metropolitan and Micropolitan size areas. In Healthcare Almanac, only the Metropolitan Areas are selected and are called MSAs - Metropolitan Statistical Areas. You can select a Profile or Graph of any CBSA information. The CBSA Profile has Population, Cost Report Analytics, CBSA KPIs based on Population and Financial Information. You can also select Graphs to see a series of Graphs for CBSA analytical values with an 8 year history. The CBSA view is a stand alone geography that can span state boundaries. The Graphs are a series of 8 graphs of key analytical information.
